Founded in 1998, the Birkenhead Brewery started as one of the first craft breweries in South Africa. Initially based on the sinking of the Birkenhead Ship along our coastline, our beers are inspirited by the ferocious power of South African landscapes and the charismatic characters that are found here. We now produce six different craft brews with additional special brews as and when inspiration strikes. All of our beers are filtered and pasteurised, with a 9-month shelf life. At the Birkenhead Brewery we pride ourselves on creativity and quality, with each beer lovingly crafted, mostly by moonlight, in-house by our small team of expert brewers.
Visit our WORKING CRAFT BREWERY and pub-style RESTAURANT & VENUE for tours, tastings and to take home your own draught or bottled beers. Tours of our in-house Craft Brewery are available on request through advanced booking, 11h00 or 15h00.

BREWER
Benson has worked at the Birkenhead Brewery since its founding in 1998 and is our longest serving member of staff. He is passionate about brewing and he has spent 20 years perfecting the brewing process. On weekends you can usually find him in the brewery late at night, brewing our secret recipes. When not brewing Benson enjoys watching soccer and rugby, and relaxing at home with his family.
BREWER
Alex joined the team in 2017. He brings with him bounteous experience, having worked as a brewer for Carlsberg in Russia, as well as having a degree in Food Science.
Premium Lager
Lazy Leopard is our original Premium Lager. It is sweeter than your average continental lager. The colder, the better. A beer for any occasion, but who needs an occasion for a classic? Any time, any place is a good place. Cheers! Flavour Characteristics: Primarily malty, sweeter than usual. Lightly hopped. Colour: Deep golden yellow.
